Borderline: Daily Locales

This series is about a normal peasant living on the border between Zhejiang Province and the ‘magic city’ Shanghai. One step further is the place where skyscrapers and urban hubbubs grow.

The photographer in this circumstance thus tried to enter his daily life with no particular intention to indicate any large spectacle containing sociological or political factors. Instead, he delved into the daily locales of this old man and invited him to take several portraits. Any interpretation would be possible: the wrinkles on his skin, the daily farming situations, the old tradition to kill a chicken for festivals and the Buddhism belief… All these elements could possibly form a montage to indicate harmony and contradiction in his culture. Yet, what matters most are the situations themselves, in this specific geopolitical region.
