I was born in 2000 in Pinghu, China. I received my BA in Film and Television at Shanghai Jiao Tong University & Sciences Po Paris, and my MPhil in Film and Screen Studies at the University of Cambridge. The central question of both my research and artwork is: how aesthetic forms have problematised the relation of aesthetic form itself to lived experience.
The town where I was born, Pinghu, lies on the border between Zhejiang and Shanghai, the 'Magic City'. For me, the road to Shanghai appears to be a moving ethnographical exhibition. In this peripheral region, wilderness, suburbanites, construction sites, and skyscrapers converge. Such sensation, on many fronts, have shaped my observations as a flâneur. My artwork, thus, consistently approaches themes such as migration, periphery regions, and ethnic identities.
My images brought me to world-renowned exhibitions and competitions such as Vogue, Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA) and European Cinematography Awards (ECA). I have also coordinated art events in various capacities, serving as the curator for the photography exhibition Deja Vu (2021, Shanghai Wenbo Library), as the college ambassador of the WaterSprite Film Festival, and as the judge and organiser of the MIT Filmmaking Association's annual event 'AI for Filmmaking Hackathon'.
As the descendant of a family that has passed down the craftsmanship of the Chinese Huzhou Writing Brush ('Hubi', 湖笔), I engage with the characteristics and stakes of this cultural heritage.
